What use is it visiting a paradise, if you can’t explore it on foot! Hua Hin is a beautiful town with lot to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace that is impossible when you are in a car or other vehicle. While there isn’t any specific walking or cycling tracks around the city, you can still indulge in both activities. All you need to do is follow some simple ‘road rules’ especially when on a bicycle.
Walking in Hua Hin
The best place to start your walk around Hua Hin is along the beach. This walk begins from The Sofitel Centara Grand and stretches up to Monkey Mountain situated at Khao Takiab covering 7km. Based on the pace of your walk; you can cover this stretch easily in 1.5 hours.
Initially you may find that the beach walk to be difficult due to the fact that most hotels have their frontages on it. But as you move away from this area, youÂ’ll find the stretch becoming quieter and less crowded. Keep an eye out for the many waterfront restaurants that are scattered along the way to the Mountain. You can pick up water and other refreshments here, though itÂ’s advisable to carry your own bottle of water. Make sure you slap on enough sunscreen before you start walking as it can be really hot, especially during summer months.
How to Enjoy
Your walk along the beach can be highly enjoyable. First of all you need to decide what time of the day you want to walk. Of course, the earlier you start the cooler it will be; between November to February thereÂ’ll be high tide beyond The Chiva Som Resort and you wonÂ’t be able to make much headway beyond that.
Second factor to consider is be prepared for the walk. There is plenty to observe and see when out on your ‘stroll.’ From the scenery to the fishermen, and from the fish to the shells to the different types of birds; so make sure you carry your camera along!
Ending Your Walk
If you get tired by the time you reach Khao Takiab, you can also grab some snacks or meals at the many warm and welcoming eating joints there. Make your way back riding a ‘songthaew’ or a shared taxi to the heart of the town for just 10 Baht.
Other Walking Routes
There are many other walking routes in and around Hua Hin. Head west and you can take the route around Royal Hua Hin Golf Course, but save yourself from being hit by stray 'out of bound' golf balls! This route is very beautiful with impressive rolling 'greens' type of landscape.
Cycling in Hua Hin
Cycling is the perfect way to beat traffic jams in the town as well as an excellent way to stay fit. But be careful and follow the traffic rules, especially around the main roads. Rent a bicycle for 50 Baht and head for the neighboring country side. Or participate in the "The Tour-de-Hua-Hin."
Whether you decide to walk or cycle, make sure abide by the rules and are well-prepared to sweat and enjoy yourself!
